Sound Video Feedback and Learner Response

Sound Video Feedback and Learner Response:

Mr Halsey's Feedback:

  • Opening works perfectly as an example of parallel sound.
  • The second half also works effectively as contrapuntal- unless the dog and cat are about to be put down! You clearly understand the terminology here.
  • You haven't quite met the brief as you've got two different pieces of music- how could you have created a contrapuntal effect on the first piece of music?
Student Feedback:

WWW:
  • Good use of parallel and contrapuntal sound.
  • Really good use of audio.
  • Music is in sync with scene.
  • Met the brief well
  • The first part of the video went extremely well with the music
EBI:
  • Fade out the audio.
  • Potentially a smoother finish.
  • Contrapuntal was not as obvious.
My own WWW and EBI:

I worked with Faiza for this video. I created the first part of the video (the Narnia scene) and Faiza created the second part of this video (the dog scene). I have always been very passionate about the Narnia world and especially the soundtrack as it is so nostalgic and magical therefore, creating this video and using the soundtrack piece as well as a prominent scene in the first movie was a lot of fun! I believe the parallel side to the video worked really well as both the audio and scene linked. I also believe that the second part with the dramatic music and the dog carrying the cat was a great example of contrapuntal sound.

WWW:
  • The parallel and contrapuntal sounds worked really well with each scene
  • The video was creative and unique
  • It connected with the audience really well as the first scene and audio was very beautiful
EBI:
  • Work on fading out audio more consistently
  • Make sure video isn't too long
  • Also fade out the ending
Learner Response:

In my opinion the top three were:
  • Chandi's Video
  • Cerys' Video
  • Faisa and Reyaan's Video
All of these videos met the brief really well and very also very captivating. The choice of audio and scenes were very effective and were just a pleasure to watch. The incredible amount and talent of Chandni's video, the beautiful transitions and cheesy video by Cerys and the very well thought out and good choice of audio and scenes by Faisa and Reyaan are all things that i aspire to implement in my own work in the near future.
I could have improved my video by using Adobe After Effects for some in-depth editing.

Sound plays an enormous part in the Film Industry. It is something that connects the audience with the scene as well as takes the scene to a whole other level. Without it, films would be extremely boring with no meaning at all. Sound creates the dramatic atmosphere therefore, it is so important to implement it in Film and TV. Each aspect from small sound effects to big pieces of music and dialogue play a huge role in a film and for that reason, I hugely respect Sound as a convention.
